Implants placed and restored in-house

At Lockleys Dental Clinic, Dr Alex Furlan has a special interest in dental implants and handles both the surgical placement and the final restoration in-house. This means fewer referrals, fewer trips, and a single clinical team managing your treatment from start to finish.

Whether you need a single implant to replace one missing tooth, an implant-supported bridge, or a full-arch solution such as All-on-4 or All-on-6, we can discuss all options at your consultation. Individual suitability and outcomes vary — your dentist will give you an honest assessment based on your bone density, gum health, and overall health history.

How dental implants work

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone where a tooth root once was. Over a period of weeks to months, the implant fuses with the surrounding bone through a process called osseointegration — creating a stable, long-lasting foundation.

Once the implant has integrated, a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture is attached. We use PrimeScan digital impressions to ensure precise, well-fitting restorations without the discomfort of traditional impression putty.

Implant options we offer

Single tooth implants

A single titanium post topped with a custom crown — the closest thing to replacing a natural tooth at the root. There is no need to alter adjacent healthy teeth, as there would be with a traditional bridge.

Implant-supported bridges

Where two or more adjacent teeth are missing, an implant bridge uses implant posts to support a multi-unit restoration without the need for individual implants at each gap position.

All-on-4 and All-on-6

A full-arch restoration supported by four or six strategically placed implants. This approach can replace all teeth in an arch using fewer implants than individual replacement, and is an alternative to conventional full dentures. Dr Furlan will discuss whether you are a suitable candidate at consultation.

Implants with IV sedation

For patients with dental anxiety or those undertaking more complex implant procedures, Dr Alex Furlan offers IV sedation. You will be deeply relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure, with little to no memory of the appointment afterwards.

The implant process — step by step

  • Consultation: Assessment of bone density, gum health, and suitability. X-rays or CBCT scan may be taken. Full treatment plan and cost discussion.
  • Placement: Titanium post placed under local anaesthetic (or IV sedation if preferred). Most patients return to normal activities within one to two days.
  • Healing: The implant gradually fuses with the jawbone over several weeks to months. A temporary restoration may be placed during this period if needed.
  • Restoration: Once integration is confirmed, a PrimeScan digital impression is taken and your custom crown or bridge is fabricated and fitted.

Benefits of dental implants

  • Look and feel like natural teeth
  • Restore full chewing function and comfort
  • Help preserve jawbone and prevent bone loss
  • Prevent neighbouring teeth from drifting
  • No need to alter adjacent healthy teeth
  • Long-lasting with proper care — individual results vary
  • Afterpay available to help spread the cost

Frequently asked questions

Good candidates generally have adequate bone density in the jaw, healthy gums, and no uncontrolled systemic conditions that could affect healing. Smoking can affect implant outcomes — your dentist will discuss this honestly. If bone loss has occurred, a bone grafting procedure may be recommended before implant placement.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and most patients report it is more comfortable than they expected. Some post-operative tenderness and swelling is normal for a few days afterwards. For patients with anxiety, IV sedation is available so you can be completely relaxed during the procedure.
No referral is needed. Dr Furlan handles both the surgical placement and the final restoration in-house. Simply contact our practice to book an implant consultation.
The total timeline depends on healing time and whether any preparatory work (such as bone grafting or tooth extraction) is needed. In straightforward cases, the process from placement to final crown typically takes three to six months. Your dentist will give you a more accurate timeline after your assessment.
Both are full-arch implant solutions that use a small number of implants to support a complete set of teeth. All-on-4 uses four implants per arch (often with two placed at an angle to maximise use of available bone), while All-on-6 uses six implants for additional support. Dr Furlan will recommend the approach best suited to your bone anatomy and clinical needs.
